It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

I couldn't let the nice weather from this weekend pass without barbecueing a brisket. This one smoked for about 18 hours using a blend of pecan, hickory, and apple wood. Along with the Apple Beer, it made for the perfect meal.

that looks so good. much better than the sloppy joe's we had (not so good). are you bringing your smoker down with you?

I am not patient enough to wait 18 hours, I would end up taking it off after maybe 6 hours and nuking it. Looks good though.

That's why I would never barbecue around you ben. You would get hungry and make me take the meat off early and then complain that it was tough and nasty.

What's wrong with sloppy joes, mom? In South Dakota they were referred to as barbecues, so that is kinda close to barbecued brisket (in name at least). If I had a nice custom tow behind pit I would definitely bring the smoker down!

I love Sloppy Joes and Brisket.

sloppy joe's are good if you have the right recipe. we didn't. thought we did. we didn't.

Did you forget to buy the Manwich?

is that the secret to good sloppy joe's?

The secret is just making your own. It's so easy. That way you can make it the way you like it. Actually, I don't know that I've ever tried Manwich.

I use the McCormick Sloppy Joe's packet. It's my favorite.

we did make our own. it was kind of not good. i'm thinking manwich or mccormicks is a good idea. cally, do you have a good make your own recipe?

Dad would not like the Manwich. Big chunks of peppers and onions...way too heartburny.

If I promise to keep Ben in check will you please BBQ for us next time?

Yes, if ben is kept on a leash I will barbecue for you guys. When you coming up? Now I'm excited!

You guys always come up to go skiing while I am pregnant! No fair!! I haven't been since Josh and I were dating. But, it would still be fun to have you come. :)

Oh, my recipe isn't really a recipe. I just add ketchup (until it's the consistency I want it), worchestershire sauce, tiny bit of mustard, and brown sugar (the last 3 to taste) and then simmer. Don't ask for amounts because I don't know them. You'll have to ask Josh if it's good. That's the way I grew up making them but maybe it's not the best flavor. Who knows? And Josh, you can be honest...if you're nice! ;)
